Streetsmart Fuel Vouchers

Thanks to a small grant from StreetSmart, we have a few vouchers to support our families and carer households toward the cost of fuel.
With recent hikes in fuel prices, combined with the impact of local flooding, the cost of living is adding up. All families in Ngunya Jarjum’s Gumaguy and OOHC (carer) teams are able to access this service.
In particular, the fuel vouchers will target families or care givers that have needed to travel more as a result of the floods to access medical or other essential services.
Some examples include:

  • Family and Carer households who have had to re-establish home as a result of the floods
  • Travelling to other medical services as the usual local providers were no longer available due to flooding (e.g. going to Goonellabah pharmacies instead of Lismore CBD or travelling to further to get gas bottles filled etc)
  • Travelling to Gold Coast to get food during the food shortages caused by flooding
  • Additional expenses for medical needed for the family as a result of flooding (e.g. more asthma management medications as a result of mould etc)

Note: Basic details are required only to assess eligibility and once the vouchers are gone we will not be getting anymore – so it is a once-of opportunity.

StreetSmart was founded by Adam Robinson in 2003. It was while working at a small youth service in Dandenong, in the outer suburbs of Melbourne, he gained first hand experience of the many barriers to funding that grassroots organisations face. The aim of founding StreetSmart was to simultaneously break down inaccurate prejudices about homelessness, raise vital funds for important smaller, local organisations and strengthen them through collaboration and connecting them to their community.
